Lighting Districts are Taxing Authorities designed as a method to force all residents living within that district to equitably pay for street lighting. In Bay Vista Blvd the street lights are provided and maintained by Florida Power & Light (FPL).
There is a Taxing Authority named Bay Vista Blvd. (see your TRIM notice). The only description in the TRIM Notice under Taxing Authority is the name Bay Vista Blvd, nothing else. Having no other information to go by you don’t immediately know it is a Lighting District. After digging into the Commissioners budget I figured out the TRIM Notice is referring to Bay Vista Blvd. Lighting District.
The Commissioners had a public hearing on Sept. 10, 2025 at 5:30pm at 1660 Ringling Blvd., Sarasota, FL to review the County’s 2026 Budget. Bay Vista Blvd. Lighting District is mentioned 3 times in their agenda. Good news, it looks like they are lowering their assessment for our Lighting District by 30%.
